Poetry unlocked new doors to the writer in me. ~ d.c.h

The dreamer in you
A vision of loveliness
Thy portrait is born.

I began writing poetry in December 1996, and although my poetic voice was born from tragedy, my writings have always been of a positive nature aimed to uplift and inspire the reader. From 1999 - 2001 five of my poems were published in separate anthologies by The International Library Of Poetry as well as one appearing in an anthology by Noble House Publishers. And I was humbled to receive awards for my poetry from The ILP in 2002.
In September 2001 I joined an online poetry club where writers came together to support, inspire and encourage their fellow poets. During this time my creative side had the opportunity to further develop and through others' encouraging and positive feedback, my individual voice continued to thrive. I attribute a lot of my writings to those wonderfully talented poets, and in particular, fellow poet & longtime friend, Stacia Leigh Marin. Through our friendship and the written word, my inspiration remained strong! So, thank you, my friend; for always believing in me & my writing. :)
After the poetry club closed down I decided I wanted to compile a book of my all-time favourite poems. So, in September 2004, after many months of designing and preparations, I printed and self-published my 1st book of poetry --"Lyrical Heart."
This book is stored in both The National Library of Australia & State Library of Victoria. It landed in the hands of some family members, close friends, and 3 branches of my local library. Although I was never in a position to get my book "out there," the copies I'd printed and shared with others gave me a huge sense of achievement and gratification.
With 3 children's books being published by PublishAmerica, I decided to work on my Lyrical Heart manuscript for their consideration.
I made some minor changes to the book by omitting a couple of poems and replacing them with two others not seen in the original. The cover art picture was also replaced with a new, fresh look. I submitted my own sunset photo with the manuscript in Sept. 2011 and was delighted when both were approved and accepted for publication.

Lyrical Heart
Writing from the heart,
Is easy once you start.
Just let your feelings go,
Like magic words will flow.
Listen to your soul,
Be honest, brave and bold.
Set your spirit free~
Fly with the angels of poetry.

Small World
People say, there’s no such thing
As little folk with tiny wings.
But I believe they’re watching us,
So beautiful, magical and wondrous.
Angels watch with love and care,
And come at night to sing a prayer.
Fairies bring sweet dreams to keep,
Sprinkling their magic while we sleep.
So, if somebody says to you,
Fairies and angels are not true.
Smile and say, ‘'I believe.
I believe they’re watching me.’'
